Translation and Commentary by ABDULLAH YUSUF ALI (Third Edition, 1938)
Sura 4:34:
"Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because God has
given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them
from their means. Therefore the
righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husbands) absence what
God would have them guard. As to the
women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next),
refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly); But if they return
to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance): For God is Most High,
great (above you all)."
Sura 9:5: "But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay
the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in
wait for them in every stratagem (of war); But if they repent, and establish
regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them: For
God is Oft-forgiving, most Merciful."
Sura 5:36:
"The punishment of those who wage war against God and His Apostle,
and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or
crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile
from the land: That is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is
theirs in the Hereafter."
Sura 6:100, 11:119, 55:15,33,39,56,74, 72:1-28:
(Jinns.)
Sura 53:2-18, Sura 81:19-24: Allah appeals to Muhammad in the form of a
man who was seen and heard.
Sura 16:102, Sura 26:192-194: The Holy Spirit calls Muhammad.
Sura 15:8:
The angels came down.
Sura 2:97:
Gabriel hands down the Qur'an.
Sura 46:29-35, 72:1-28: Muhammad preached to Jinns.
Sura 4:3: "If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the
orphans, marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; But if ye fear
that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a
captive) that your right hands possess. That will be more suitable, to prevent
you from doing injustice"
Sura 18:110: "Say: I am but a man like yourselves, (but) the inspiration
has come to me, that your God is One God: whoever expects to meet his Lord, let
him work righteousness, and in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner."
Sura 40:55:
"Patiently, then, persevere: For the promise of God is true: and
ask forgiveness for thy fault, and celebrate the praises of thy Lord in the
evening and in the morning."
Sura 48:1-2:
"Verily we have granted thee a manifest Victory; That God may
forgive thee thy faults of the past and those to follow; Fulfil His favour to
thee; And guide thee on the straight way"
Sura 17:91-95:
Muhammad never performed a miracle.
Sura 29:47-51: His revelations were miracles.
Muhammad was illiterate.
Sura 33: 36-38:
“It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been
decided by God and His Apostle, to have any option about their decision: If any
one disobeys God and His Apostle, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path. Behold! thou didst say to one who had
received the grace of God and thy favour; "Retain thou (In wedlock) thy
wife, and fear God.” But thou didst hide
in thy heart that which God was about to make manifest: thou didst fear the
people, but it is more fitting that thou shouldest fear God. Then when Zaid had dissolved (his marriage)
with her, with the necessary (formality), We joined her in marriage to
thee: In order that (in future) there
may be no difficulty to the Believers in (the matter of) marriage with the
wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have dissolved (formality)(their
marriage) with them. And God's command
must be fulfilled,
Sura 6:51,70 10:3: There is no intercessor or savior.

The Qur'an is the highest piece of literature.
Sura 2:177,192, 3:59, 4:162, 5:69, 7:160, 13:28,
20:66, 63:10: Quranic aberrations form
the normal rules and structure of Arabic.
Ayesha's Qur'an (the Shiites follow) contained 25%
more verses than Caliph Uthman's Qur'an. Ubai’s Qur'an contained several more
suras than Caliph Uthman's Qur'an.
English Muslim Mohammed Pickthal stated, “The Koran
cannot be translated.” (p.vii) in the introduction to his excellent English
translation.
The Qur'an is in the dialect and vocabulary of someone
who was a member of the Quraysh tribe living in the city of Mecca during the
seventh century.
Suras 2-13, 16, 17, 20, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, 29, 32,
34, 35, 39-48, 53, 54, 61, 62, 66, 74, 80, 87, 98. The Qur'an appeals to the Old
and New Testament.
Sura 41:9, 10, 12:
The Qur'an states that God created the world in eight days total. 2+4+2
Sura 7:54, 10:3:
The Qur'an states that God created the world in six days.
Sura 11:42, 43: The Qur'an states that one of Noah’s
sons refused to go into the ark and drowned in the flood.
Sura 11:44:
The Qur'an states that Noah’s ark rested on top of Mount Judi.
Sura 6:74:
The Qur'an states that Abraham's father was Azar, the Bible says Terah.
Sura 14:37:
The Qur'an states that Abraham lived in the valley of Mecca, the Bible
says Hebron.
Sura 37:100-112: The Qur'an states that Abraham sacrificed Ishmael, the Bible says
Isaac.
Sura 2:125-127:
The Qur'an states that Abraham built the Kabah-the house of God.
Sura 21:68, 69, 9:69: The Quran states that Nimrod threw Abraham into a fire.
Sura 5:15: From those, too, who call themselves
Christians, we did take a Covenant but they forgot a good part of the message
that was sent to them: so We estranged them, with enmity and hatred between the
one and the other, to the Day of Judgment.
And soon will God show them what it is they have done.
Sura 5:31: If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to
slay me, it is not for me to stretch my hand against thee to slay thee: for I
do fear God, the Cherisher of the Worlds.
Sura 5:36: The punishment of those who wage war against
God and His Apostle, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land
is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of the hands and feet from
opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world,
and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter.
Sura 5:54: O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and
protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for
friendship) is of them. Verily God
guideth not a people unjust.
Sura 5:67: The Jews say: “God’s hand is tied up.” Be their hands tied up and be they accursed
for the (blasphemy) they utter. Nay,
both His hands are widely outstretched: he giveth and spendeth (of His bounty)
as He pleaseth. But the revelation that
cometh to thee from God increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion
and blasphemy. Amongst them we have
placed enmity and hatred till the Day of Judgment. Every time they kindle the fire of war, God doth extinguish it;
but they (ever) strive to do mischief on earth. And God loveth not those who do mischief.
Sura 4: 74: Let those fight in the cause of God who sell
the life of this world for the Hereafter.
To him who fighteth in the cause of God, whether he is slain or gets
victory soon shall We give him a reward of great value.
Sura 4:75: And why should ye not fight in the cause of
God and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated (and oppressed)? Men, women, and children, whose cry is: “Our
Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose
people are oppressors; and raise for us from Thee one who will protect; and
raise for us from Thee one who will help!”
Sura 4:76: Those who believe fight in the cause of God,
and those who reject Faith fight in the cause of Evil: so fight ye against the
friends of satan: feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan.
Sura 4:101: When ye
travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye shorten your prayers,
for fear the Unbelievers may attack you: for the Unbelievers are unto you open
enemies.
Sura 4: 102: When thou (O
Apostle) art with them, and standest to lead them in prayer, let one party of
them stand up (in prayer) with thee, taking their arms with them: when they
finish their prostrations, let them take their position in the rear. And let the other party come up which hath
not yet prayed-and let them pray with thee, taking all precautions, and bearing
arms: the Unbelievers wish, if ye were negligent of your arms and your baggage,
to assault you in a single rush. But
there is no blame on you if ye put away your arms because of the inconvenience
of rain or because ye are ill; but take (every) precaution for yourselves. For the Unbelievers God hath prepared a
humiliating punishment.
Sura 4: 104: And slacken
not in following up the enemy: if ye are suffering hardships, they are
suffering similar hardships; but ye have hope from God, while they have
none. And God is full of knowledge and
wisdom.
Sura 4:115: If anyone contends with the Apostle even
after guidance has been plainly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than
that becoming to men of Faith, we shall leave him in the path he has chosen,
and land him in Hell,-what an evil refuge!
Sura 4:116: God forgiveth not (the sin of) joining other
Gods with Him; but he forgiveth whom he pleaseth other sins than this: one who
joins other gods with God, hath strayed far, far away (from the right).
Sura 4:117: (The Pagans), leaving Him call but upon
female deities: they call but upon Satan the persistent rebel!
Sura 4:122: But those who believe and do deeds of
righteousness,-we shall soon admit them to Gardens, with rivers flowing
beneath,-to dwell therein for ever.
God’s promise is the truth, and whose word can be truer than God’s?
Sura 4:139: Yea, to those who take for friends
Unbelievers rather than Believers: is it honour they seek among them? Nay,-all honour is with God.
Sura 4:144: O ye who believe! Take not for friends unbelievers rather than believers: do ye
wish to offer God an open proof against yourselves.
Sura 4:151: They are in truth (equally) Unbelievers; and
We have prepared for Unbelievers a humiliating punishment.
